Los NaranjosThe Los Naranjos campsite, or in English, "The Orange Trees", or perhaps"Orange Grove", lies about 70 kilometres north east of the famous Spanish city of Seville. It is a campsite owned by a group of churches in Seville, and also by the FEBE church in Malaga. In contrast to the bustle of a large city, Los Naranjos is in the very quiet and beautiful surroundings of the Sierra del Norte National Park. There are indeed a number of orange trees on the site—Seville oranges too, but there are lemon and mandarin orange trees as well! Visitors have been known to make their own marmalade from the fruit on the camp. There are also a considerable number of buildings to maintain and improve. A group of FEBE church members from the UK try to spend about a fortnight a year helping out in practical ways. There is a lot of painting to do! in 2007 the group used around 120 - 150 litres of white paint. |

The support visits are arranged in conjunction with the churches who own and run the campsite so that the jobs that they would like to see started are carried out. We have tackled painting (lots!) plumbing, bricklaying, concrete laying and general DIY tasks. Also sewing and washing of Camp linen. The liaison between the UK and Spain is handled by Ken Day and David Rivero. This is a practical way to support the Los Naranjos project and the Spanish churches as they seek to evangelise. The visits tend to be during the 'off' season so as not to interfere with the use of the facilities by the Spanish. In that way we can have use of one or two of the casas with good cooking and washing facilities. To that end we are self-supporting. We each bear our own costs for flights to Seville, and have a general 'pot' for buying food and other necessities which we eat together. Although there to work, siesta time is observed, and we have been known to have 'days off' in Seville and act as 'real' tourists! Each day begins with a short Bible study and prayer time led by one of the party. As we are so far from Seville, we also have a full service on Sundays. If you have practical skills in general DIY, and are willing to help and share, then contact Ken Day for more information. |

To see the oranges from which this marmalade was made, see the Los Naranjos page under Vacations. The original contents of the jar tasted fine too! |
